Great Smoky Mountains National Park boasts around 10 million visits per year and it is the most visited national park in the United States! There is no fee to visit Great Smoky Mountains National Park and there never will be. It was established in 1934 and officially dedicated by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1940. With 522,419 acres it is one of the largest protected areas in the eastern US. There are 2115 miles of streams, (all streams are open for fishing) 850 miles of hiking trails, and 12 popular waterfalls within its boundaries. The main park entrances are located along U.S. Highway 441 (Newfound Gap Road) at the towns of Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Cherokee, North Carolina.
